I offer treatment for children, teens, and women who are survivors of a variety of trauma experiences. I am able to accept clients for in person work or therapy via telehealth. (Michigan and North Carolina residents)
Trauma experiences are diverse. The three most commonly referenced trauma experiences are sexual abuse, physical abuse, and neglect. Yes, of course, I have experience treating children, teens, and women with those experiences. However, there are many more different types of “trauma.” I have met kids who have survived dog attacks, adults who still have vivid nightmares and flashbacks of natural disasters when they were younger, and teenagers who are deeply affected by bullying they experienced in middle school. Trauma isn’t defined by an event but by a person’s reaction to it. Car accidents and deaths in the family are perfect examples. One person could survive a car accident and walk away feeling okay with no visible changes in mental health. Another person in the same car could show symptoms of a trauma disorder. The effects of trauma can include; flashbacks, nightmares, re-experiencing, avoidance of reminders, sleeplessness/insomnia, and being on the lookout for danger/hypervigilance. Anxiety, depression, inability to trust others, and low self-esteem can also be symptoms. It is important to be aware that trouble concentrating and difficulty staying still can also be symptoms of traumatic experiences. (Unfortunately, many children with trauma backgrounds are misdiagnosed with ADHD due to these symptom overlaps)
I have been trained in many different evidenced based treatment approaches. I am EMDR trained, and offer EMDR for children, teens, and women. I am also Nationally Certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) which is a treatment for children and teens up to the age of 18. I am also trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy CPT) Whichever modality you choose we can discuss options and I will explain them when we meet for our sessions!
I love to help people heal and find joy on their journey.
