Christian Counseling

I am an active member of Mid-Way Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. I offer Christian Counseling upon request, and allow clients to dictate how much if any of their faith they wish to bring to their counseling sessions. Many client clients prefer to begin in prayer; some choose to end each session in prayer. I have other clients who prefer biblical based therapy, and others who like to just know that I share their faith and am comfortable with them discussing their faith in sessions.

Theraplay

Theraplay is an evidenced based play therapy technique based in attachment therapy. It can be used to treat ADHD, Depression, trauma, attachment issues, and noncompliance. It can be used with adoptive families, foster families, and biological families. Theraplay sessions involve both caregiver and child. I use Theraplay with children ages 2 to 12. Theraplay is one of the evidenced based play therapy methods approved by SAMHSA.

Child Parent Relationship Training

Child Parent Relationship Training is a TEN session program in which a play therapist teaches caregivers skills to help them address emotional and behavioral issues they may see in their children. It is based in filial therapy (a type of play therapy that involves caregivers). This program is for parents with children ages 3 to 8. It helps treat family cohesion issues, and disruptive disorders/behaviors. CPRT has been recognized as evidenced based by SAMHSA.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT is a brief-time limited therapy typically used with adolescents and adults, however children can be taught aspects of CBT. Identifies thoughts that contribute to anxiety and depression and teaches clients to replace those unhelpful thoughts. Through CBT I also teach client’s relaxation techniques such as meditation and we discuss increasing mindfulness. CBT most typically treats anxiety and depression. But can also be used to treat phobias, anger issues, mood issues, disordered eating, and much more! Let me know if I can help!

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

I am nationally certified in TF-CBT. TF-CBT is an evidenced based treatment for all types of trauma. I use TF-CBT for children ages 7-18. If your child or teen has been a victim of sexual abuse, physical abuse, or has witnessed or experienced a traumatic event this treatment may be for them. I have a parent hand-out I would give you at the first session that explains the TF-CBT program and goals. But to read more about if TF-CBT is right for your child please read this blog article: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Directive Based Play Therapy

Many children come to therapy and need to learn specific skills. Some children need to learn feelings identification, coping skills, meditation, anger management skills, anxiety education, and more! I can help children learn these skills through play! Please note I only use this type of play therapy with children ages 7 and up. With children under the age of 7 I will suggest a different modality of play therapy.
