Telehealth and COVID 19 by Jenn Lowe, M.A., LCMHC, RPT

Prior to March 13, 2020, I offered telehealth to my clients occasionally. I did telehealth sessions when clients were going on vacation, going away to college, or on inclement weather days. Sometimes when I had a yucky cold, I did video sessions and had clients do the same when they had a bad cold and wanted to stay in their PJs at home.

When North Carolina went into "shelter in place," on March 13th, I switched to 100% telehealth. During that time, I ended up moving to Michigan to be closer to family.

I now offer telehealth to residents of Michigan and North Carolina. (I am licensed in both states and able to accept payments and BCBS for residents of both states).

Many of my clients love telehealth. There are a few benefits of pursuing therapy via telehealth.

It's a little bit easier for clients to sneak away for a video session than to drive to my office and back home or back to work. Prior to COVID, clients were taking a very long break, now they are able to quickly fit in a one-hour session.

People have reported feeling more comfortable, they have their pets nearby, get to sit in a favorite chair, or sit outside on their back porches with a cup of coffee.

I am able to offer video sessions through a HIPAA-compliant video chat program and have a variety of days and times available to meet your schedule!

I traditionally offer therapy for children, teens, and women. However, with telehealth, I prefer to see children ages 10 and up! It can be hard for little ones to sit for a telehealth session. If you have a younger child, we may need to do shorter sessions or parent-child sessions (Theraplay).
