Anxiety is one of the most common reasons why people seek therapy services.
Anxiety can look different for everyone, though. My clients struggle in public, talking to strangers, public speaking, asking for raises, giving presentations at work, and at job interviews. In therapy, we refer to this as social anxiety. Others struggle with worrying about many different things and spend a lot of time during their day thinking about their worries (generalized anxiety disorder). Other people struggle with obsessive-compulsive disorder, worrying about getting sick or dying or being away from family members or attending school. Some people with anxiety have occasional panic attacks, while others have them frequently.
I have experience working with clients with separation anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobias, panic disorders, and social anxiety.
Some people refer to anxiety as stress, nervousness, fear, or worries. Whatever you call it, it can really upset our minds and our bodies! It is common for people with anxiety to have digestive issues, stomach aches, headaches, and muscle tension.
In our sessions together, I will teach you some various coping skills to help relieve that anxiety. I will explain the parts of the brain that come into play when anxiety is present. I will also teach you different ways to think about those worrying thoughts.
I do ask clients to think about how their life would be different or more enjoyable without anxiety weighing them down. What would look different? Would you be more likely to ask for the raise? Apply for the job? Ask a teacher for help in school. Go on more trips away from home?
I offer individual therapy sessions for children, teens, and women with anxiety. Sessions are available in my office in Jackson, Michigan, or via telehealth. (I hold a license in North Carolina and can offer telehealth sessions to residents of North Carolina as well).
