EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements). This helps reduce the vividness, emotions, and fight/fight/freeze response associated with these memories.

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is extensively researched, effective in helping people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. We work together to identify negative beliefs associated with upsetting events in your past. Together we will identify a more helpful belief to pair with these upsetting events.

It is often helpful to people who have upsetting memories and have already tried traditional talk therapy approaches.

I always tell clients it’s not a memory modification program and it’s NOT hypnosis. The memory will be there, we are just turning down the volume, and adding a more positive belief to the memory.
